Chendering
Finding the two pieces in the top row at the KT market in 1998 inspired me to bicycle again to Chendering to search for Safinor and that time I found it. In 2004, I couldn't, but at least I was on a motorbike that time so the effort wasn't too exhausting. How can I misplace a factory I've been to before?
I'm always happy to come across a Safinor in the market. Sarongs are clearly marked with a wonderful name-chop. Their batik seems to be deeply traditional, always with bala kuning (yellow), and yet they can put a daft spin on it. That lavender is one of my top three for 2005.
Sadly in 2008, just when I managed to find the actual address for Safinor, I discovered that the factory had closed down.
