satu lapis
Satu lapis is not the name of a batiker but a style. Literally, "one layer" of wax or dye, it is the easiest type of batik to make. The pattern is stamped with wax on white cloth and then dyed once. Usually blue but sometimes red or maroon and less commonly, tan, yellow, green etc.
This style of batik does not get a lot of respect-- Malaysians prefer more colors--but its simplicity has always appealed to me, especially the blue and white. Since batik is priced by the "layer," this is the least expensive batik for sale.
